What is RBdigital?
RBdigital offers digital magazines, eBooks, and downloadable audiobooks all through a single platform and mobile app. Libraries offer the services to active users through a personal account.
How do I create an Account?
We recommend creating an account on your first visit to your library’s RBdigital website on your computer. Select the “Register” link in the upper-right-hand corner of the screen. Fill in the information requested. Enter a user name without any spaces (i.e. user123). Passwords must be at least four characters long and can contain both numbers and letters. Passwords are case sensitive. Usernames are not.
Do I need my library card number when registering for an account?
Yes. If you do not know your library card number, contact the library and library staff will assist you.
How many titles can I check out at one time and how long is my checkout period?
You can check out up to ten (10) eBook and/or audiobook titles for up to ten (10) days.
Do I need to return my item(s) by the due date?
No. You do not have to remember to return your items. Items will automatically be returned on the due date. No late fees! Titles will expire from your checkout list on their due date at the exact time they were checked out. For example, if a title was checked out at 2:00 pm for ten days, it will expire on the tenth day at 2:00 pm.
If you finish an item before the due date, you can return it by visiting the title details page and clicking “RETURN.”
Can I renew my items?
Yes. An item can be renewed if there are no holds on it.
How do I put a title on hold?
An audiobook or eBook title will display the hold button when another patron has the title checked out. The hold button may also be displayed if you have reached your maximum number of checkouts.
To place an audiobook or eBook title on hold, go to the title details page and click the hold button. A success message will be displayed, along with your place in line. You can view the titles you’ve put on hold on the “Holds” page in the three-lined “Menu” icon at the top-left side of the page.
How do I remove an item from my hold list?
Titles can be removed from a hold on the “Holds” page. Simply click on the “X” button found above the title image and a confirmation message will ask you to confirm your hold removal.
How will I know when my hold becomes available?
For your convenience, RBdigital will automatically check out the title to your account when the title becomes available for checkout. An email stating the title is available for download will be sent to the email address you have on file. When you receive the email, you can look in your “Checked Out” items to download your selection.
What is a wishlist and how does it work?
The wishlist allows you to save audiobook and eBook titles that you may want to check out or reference later. It is like your personal bookshelf for quick access to favorite books. To add titles to the wishlist, click the “Add to Wishlist” button on the title details page. To view titles in your wishlist, click the three-lined “Menu” icon at the top left of the screen and select “Wishlist.”
Can I view my checkout history?
Yes. A list of the titles you have previously checked out on RBDigital can be found in the three-lined “Menu” icon under the “History” section, which shows the last six titles checked out. To see your entire history, click the “Explore” button.
Does the RBDigital app use data from my phone plan?
To make sure that the app won’t download titles when you’re offline, click the three-lined “Menu” icon, click “MY ACCOUNT,” click “SETTINGS,” and make sure the setting for “WI-FI ONLY” has been turned on. When activated, this setting prevents titles from downloading via your device’s data plan.
What if I don’t have Wi-Fi at home?
You can download titles using your phone’s data plan or public Wi-Fi. The Botetourt County Libraries Wi-Fi can be accessed 24/7 from our parking lots. Once a title has been downloaded to your device, you can read it offline.
