How the Summer Reading Challenge Works
2. Read books! Read or listen to whatever books you want, in any format you want! Do activities!
3. Check-in with Beanstack to gain entries for the Grand Prizes and bonus swag.
4. For bonus entries, complete challenges throughout the summer. All entries must be submitted by July 24th.
Why should I participate?
It is fun for all, from infants through centenarians! Summer is notoriously a time when children’s reading especially takes a dip, when they have less encouragement to read for pleasure. Collecting just 5 digital badges allows you to complete the program and win prizes!
Who can participate?
Anyone who wants to, ages 0-150!
Do I need a library card to participate?
No! You do not need a library card to sign up for the Summer Reading Program or to attend any library programs. However, you need a library card to borrow materials from the library or from the Digital Media Catalog.
Can I add multiple readers to my account?
Yes! We recommend families all using the same login. If you are signing up for the first time, Beanstack will ask if you would like to add another reader. If you already have an account and would like to add a reader, under the Settings tab click on Add a Reader. If you need help adding readers, please contact us.
Can I register all the kids at my daycare together?
Yes! The leader of a group, like a daycare, can sign up a large group of kids at one time. They also set default age and grade for all group members in order to expedite sign-up. Staff can update the ages and grades for individual students if necessary.
How do I change the reader I am logging for?
Click the name at the top left.
Can I share my child’s reader page with another caregiver?
Yes! The person sharing the reader must be their original account creator.
To share a reader the account creator should take the following steps:
1. Login and use the dropdown menu in the upper left corner of their dashboard to toggle to the reader the account creator wants to share
2. Click on that reader’s name and select Edit Reader
3. Scroll down to Share This Reader and enter the email address of the person(s) with whom they want to share the reader
4. Click Send
5. The person with whom the reader was shared, will receive a message that the account creator wants to share this reader. They will be prompted to add their own Beanstack account (if they do not have one), or enter a code to add this reader to an existing account

Why are the activities different for my younger child and my teenager?
Your children may be signed up for different challenges based upon their ages. The requirements to complete the challenge are the same (5 badges), but some of their badges are different. Requiring a teen to attend one of our virtual storytimes is probably not something that will go over well.
There are some badges that are the same and we encourage families to complete these activities together. You can then each log those activities to earn your individual badges and digital tickets. Use those digital tickets towards the incentives you want (incentives are different between the child, teen and adult challenge).
How do I win prizes?
As you earn badges, you will also earn digital raffle tickets that you can put towards our grand prizes.
When children complete 5 badges they will get a message letting them know they can pick up a SRC Goody Bag. It will have a free book, treasure box toy, bookmarks, etc. These bags will be pre-stuffed. No trading books or toys.
How do you know when you’ve completed the challenge?
After you earn 5 digital badges of your choice, you have completed the Summer Reading Challenge. A message will pop up letting you know you are done and that you can continue earning badges and digital raffle tickets if you would like, but you are officially done when you earn 5 digital badges.
Why am I getting so many emails?
Due to limited in-house services this Summer, we want to keep you in the loop with virtual events and future opening plans. We will limit our emails so as not to inundate you, but you may also receive e-mails from Beanstack letting you know about any changes to the website. You may also receive e-mails if you are signed up for the personalized book recommendation feature.
To change these settings at any time, go to the Beanstack website:
Choose the reader you wish to edit from the drop-down menu on the right
Click Edit Reader
Update the Personalized Recommendations and Email Notifications fields
Note: This cannot be changed on the app.
Can we continue to track our reading with Beanstack after the summer is over?
After the summer challenge ends, a person may still login to Beanstack to view his/her log and to track reading. When another challenge becomes available, it will appear on their homepage. The person will then be able to enroll in the upcoming or current challenge.
While the library buildings are physically closed, your librarians are still hard at work and are available to assist you during normal business hours. Please contact them for any questions about our new platform and challenge at 540-928-2900.
