Get a Library Card
While the library is closed
The Botetourt County Libraries are part of the Roanoke Valley Library Consortium which share a common borrower’s card and online catalog. Botetourt patrons may also obtain books and other materials from the collections of the Roanoke City, Roanoke County, and Salem libraries at no charge. Any resident of Virginia may apply for a free borrower’s card. Minors require a parent or guardian’s signature. Proof of permanent address, such as a driver’s license, bill, check, or a letter addressed to the applicant is required. Loan periods vary by type of material. Most books and audiobooks may be borrowed for a period of four weeks but some new and high-demand items may be borrowed for only two weeks. Magazines may be borrowed for two weeks, video games and music CDs may be borrowed for seven days. Most movies and television shows circulate for seven days, but some new and high-demand items may be borrowed for only four days. Most items can be renewed twice. Renewals may be done via the library’s online catalog (www.rvl.info), by calling, or by coming to the library in person. Any item that has a hold on it may not be renewed.
The fine for overdue books is 20 cents per day up to a maximum of $5.00 per item. Fines for overdue DVDs and videos are $1.00 per day up to a maximum of $5.00 per item. The amount of fines a patron can carry before being blocked from checking out more items is $10.00.
