HERE’S HOW IT WORKS

1. Request items

ONLINE OR BY PHONE

Place requests for items online at RVL.info or call 540-928-2900.

We have a lot of requests to process, so please be patient. Not sure what to get?

Need to send a fax or print something out?

2. Wait for an alert

GET EMAIL, TEXT OR CALL

TIP: Sign up at LibraryElf.com to get email or text notices when your items are ready for pickup.

If you prefer a phone call, be prepared to wait a little longer until we have time to call you.

3. Come to the library

DURING CURBSIDE HOURS

Check back here or call to verify which days and times your library is open.

Take careful note of instructions so you’ll know what to expect when you arrive.

4. Call us

TELL US YOU’RE HERE

We’ll guide you through the next steps.

Don’t have a mobile phone? Call us before you leave home. We’ll ask for an estimated time of arrival and a description of your vehicle.

5. Pop the trunk

PLEASE STAY IN YOUR CAR

We’ll put your items in the trunk so maintain a safe 6′ distance.

Can’t open your trunk? Tell us when you call. We’ll leave your items on a table for you to retrieve.

Please note:

  • Library buildings remain closed to the public at this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Wait times for holds may be longer than usual.
  • The setup will be a little different at each branch. See details below.
  • All materials will be quarantined for 7 days before they are removed from patron accounts and recirculated.

What sanitization is being done to protect everyone?

In addition to quarantining all materials for longer than the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations, our cleaning crews have employed enhanced cleaning measures. There will be no direct contact between staff and patrons. Materials will be either left on a designated table outside the branch for you to pick up while staff remain at a safe distance or, in limited cases, placed in your car trunk.

I just returned some books, but when I got home I saw that they were still listed as checked out on my account. Why is this?

Returned items will take at least seven days to be checked in due to the quarantine process. You will not incur any late fees or have your card blocked due to this period.

After I put items on hold, how long will it take for them to be ready?

As always, we can’t provide estimates due to numerous variables such as if other patrons have requested the same items, where the materials are in their quarantine phase and whether your branch already has the materials or if they have to be transferred from another branch. Please know we’re working as fast as we can to serve you and thank you for your patience.

When are customers going to be allowed to go back into the branches?

We’re not sure yet. We’re eager to resume as many of our services as possible, but we need to prepare our facilities first to make it safer for everyone when we open our doors again. Thank you for your patience!

How do I get a library card?

You can sign up online to get a temporary library card number that can be used right away. This card number is valid for one year and provides access to all of our online library resources. Apply for a library card online.

What is happening with library programs?

Programs are currently only being offered online. Check the online calendar for all the upcoming events. Once branches reopen to the public, we will give an update on when we plan to resume in-person programs.

When will I be able to submit new meeting room reservation requests for the future?

We don’t have a set date for reopening bookings at this time.

How can I get assistance regarding my account or if I need help with research?

You can call us at (540) 928-2900 during normal business hours and our staff will be happy to help you.
