How can I participate? If you created an account for any of our other reading challenges, log into your existing Beanstack account. If you have not created an account, do so at botetourtva.beanstack.org or on the Beanstack App.
Is there something specific a participant needs to read? You can read whatever you like and track your minutes, or earn badges by reading from recommended lists in Beanstack.
Will participants earn badges? Yes, every challenge has new and unique badges.
Why should I participate?
Beanstack challenges are designed to engage the entire family. Whether you are tracking your reading or participating in activities our challenges will have you exploring the world around you.
Every challenge has new and unique digital badges you can earn. Some challenges also allow you to win incentives for yourself and family. Other challenges have you working on a community goal with chances to win book collections, autographed books and author visits for Botetourt County Libraries.
Whatever the challenge, we hope to inspire the Botetourt community to be a community of readers.
Who can participate?
Anyone who wants to, ages 0-150!
Do I need a library card to participate?
No! You do not need a library card to sign up for the Summer Reading Program or to attend any library programs. However, you need a library card to borrow materials from the library or from the Digital Media Catalog.
What if I don’t want to use the online tracker?
The online tracker is the only way to participate in our Beanstack challenges. If you don’t have a computer or internet access at home, feel free to visit any Botetourt County Libraries branch and use our computers for free. Simply sign in at the front circulation desk.
Can I add multiple readers to my account?
Yes! We recommend families all using the same login. If you are signing up for the first time, Beanstack will ask if you would like to add another reader. If you already have an account and would like to add a reader, under the Settings tab click on Add a Reader. If you need help adding readers, please contact us.
Can I register all the kids at my daycare together?
Yes! The leader of a group, like a daycare, can sign up a large group of kids at one time. They also set default age and grade for all group members in order to expedite sign-up. Staff can update the ages and grades for individual students if necessary.
How do I change the reader I am logging for?
Click the name at the top left.
Can I share my child’s reader page with another caregiver?
Yes! The person sharing the reader must be their original account creator.
To share a reader the account creator should take the following steps:
1. Login and use the dropdown menu in the upper left corner of their dashboard to toggle to the reader the account creator wants to share
2. Click on that reader’s name and select Edit Reader
3. Scroll down to Share This Reader and enter the email address of the person(s) with whom they want to share the reader
4. Click Send
5. The person with whom the reader was shared, will receive a message that the account creator wants to share this reader. They will be prompted to add their own Beanstack account (if they do not have one), or enter a code to add this reader to an existing account
I made a mistake while logging activities. How do I fix it?
On the Beanstack Website
Click on Reading Log
Click on title you wish to adjust
Click on Edit
- You can adjust the minutes read
*If you have multiple reading sessions associated with one book, you can adjust those individual sessions once you click on the book.
Click on Remove if you want to completely remove that book or a specific reading session.
In the Beanstack App
Click on log
Click on recent
Click on title you wish to adjust
Scroll down and click Reading Sessions
Click on the reading session you wish to adjust
Click pen icon in top right corner
- You can adjust the date, minutes, start and end page
Why am I getting so many emails?
We try to limit our emails so as not to inundate you, but you may also receive e-mails from Beanstack letting you know about any changes to the website. You may also receive e-mails if you are signed up for the personalized book recommendation feature.
To change these settings at any time, go to the Beanstack website:
Choose the reader you wish to edit from the drop-down menu on the right
Click Edit Reader
Update the Personalized Recommendations and Email Notifications fields
Note: This cannot be changed on the app.
Can we continue to track our reading with Beanstack after the challenge is over?
After the challenge ends, a person may still login to Beanstack to view his/her log and to track reading. When another challenge becomes available, it will appear on their homepage. The person will then be able to enroll in the upcoming or current challenge.
